The first series of Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGB) was introduced in November 2015. Since then, over 59 series of SGBs have been launched, making it a popular investment choice in India. SGBs offer a unique combination of gold price appreciation and a fixed interest rate of 2.5% per annum, starting from the August 2016 series. For the first five series, the interest rate was 2.75%. Additionally, from the 2016-17 Series III onwards, investors benefit from a cash discount of Rs 50 per gram on the average price of gold.
